Case Study Spotlight: 20 Years Preventing Chronic Disease
Marking an Organizational Milestone in Print
CDC's National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion wanted to commemorate the 20th anniversary of its formation in a special edition of the center's Chronic Disease Notes & Reports. The entire issue would recognize the far-sighted pioneers and current leaders who guided the center's establishment and nurtured its growth through challenging periods of funding cutbacks, the emergence of HIV/AIDS cases and more recent crises requiring sharpened focus on non-chronic areas, such as terrorism preparedness and emerging infectious diseases.
Anne Wainscott Writing brainstormed the editorial approach that brought together the three current and past directors to reminisce and share highlights in a "fireside-chat-style" interview, and wrote in-depth features on the 10 key areas of chronic disease work. Interviews included one with former U.S. Congressman John Porter. a public health advocate who protected the center's funding during a critical time in its evolution and growth.
Case Study Spotlight: Crafting a Web-friendly Narrative for a Top 35 Business School
A New Annual Report Approach
With a new dean on board and against the backdrop of a severe economic recession, Fisher College of Business was looking for a fresh editorial approach for its 2009 report. A key goal was to give the school's diverse constituents an appreciation of the college's direction and leadership in a narrative that could be carried beyond print and 'live" in expanded form on a microsite off the college's website.
Anne Wainscott Writing developed a compelling theme, "Vision & Voices," and provided both print and expanded online content that included audio excerpts of interviews with college faculty, students, donors and alumni. This creative editorial approach contributed to Fisher College's 2009 annual report receiving a 2010 PRism Award by the Central Ohio Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.
Bottom line: "The end result was outstanding. Anne did a very thorough and thoughtful job. The approach we took was risky, and a huge departure from prior years' annual reports. Anne's contributions from initial brainstorming of ideas to completion was invaluable in ensuring the quality of the final product." -- Gail Dickson, Director of Marketing and Communications, Fisher College of Business
